A particulate matter on big forklift trucks and container handlers

A particulate matter on big forklift trucks_Blog.jpgOlaf Van Straaten, Test and Reliability Manager for Hyster Big Trucks seen on the right of the picture demonstrates the difference in particulates (soot) emitted from a Tier 3 truck and a Hyster Tier 4i truck with visual aids.

The canisters held by the engineer on the left contain diesel particulate matter, and the white marks indicate the quantity gathered over a set period.

The canister held up (on the right) is from a Hyster Tier 4i Big Truck and the other from a previous Tier 3 model. There is a significant difference, showing how these new trucks can really help reduce a company’s carbon footprint.

In fact, Particulate Matter (primarily carbon soot and combustion bi-products) is now reduced by 90% on the new Hyster Big Truck range thanks, in part, to the fully integrated Cummins Diesel Particulate Filter (DPF). Exhaust flows out of the engine and into the Particulate Filter system where it is collected and then oxidized (regenerated).
